DESCRIPTION

Long before the Hellenic era when Ariadne is re-written as a princess who aids and then betrayed by Theseus she was a Goddess in her own right. Some scholars believe was the first deity in the Grecian lands to embody the use of honey wine to engage in ecstatic work. Karl Karenyi also claims were first title was that of "Mistress of the Labyrinth" which referred to both a winding dancing ground as well as the maze of the Minotaur legend. She is also thought to embody themes of threads, spinning, and weaving. She mothered many children with Dionysus but most well-known Oenopion, the personification of wine, and Staphylus who is associated with grapes.

Sadly the original plant sacred to Ariadne and Dionysus is thought to now be extinct. The closest we have is Wormwood, which is in its own right an incredibly magical plant. Used for many healing properties in ancient times, and still cooked with in Korea, it is now most commonly recognized as an ingredient for absinthe.

Wormwood is highly purifying, in the garden and home discourages pests and used to banish unwanted spirits (especially when burned with mugwort. It is a powerful aid in inducing visions, aiding in astral travel, trance, and divination.
